A couple weeks ago, we were watching "Journeys in Japan," a travel series on the NHK World Japan website, and it featured an area that grows yuzu, a sour Japanese citrus fruit used in cooking. Chieko said that next time we're in California, she wants to get some dried yuzu at a Japanese grocery store. I said, "Well, your birthday is coming up soon. Let's go to California."
We made plans and reservations, but then we learned that California doesn't really want visitors due to the COVID pandemic, and anyone who goes there is supposed to quarantine for nine days. We also learned that our neighbor's two sons' families had each planned trips to California recently, and their hotels called them just before they went and asked if they were going for business or pleasure. The said "pleasure," and the hotels canceled their reservations.
So we rerouted our trip to Arizona, which doesn't have Japanese supermarkets, but they do welcome tourists. This is that getaway: https://youtu.be/XzL4lRGeYrE
